A month has passed since I last updated, and it has been a busy one! In the middle of November Ida, from Falun – Sweden, came to visit, she was one of the guests on the 10 day MTB tour that iRide Africa organized. It was 6 Danes, 3 Norwegians, Ida and an English girl, a really nice group so it was a pleasure to work! Thanks to all the guests for a super nice week!
One of my favourite races, Die Burger cycle tour, was held yesterday in Stellenbosch not far from where I live, so it must be my ”home race”. I have won the race the last 4 years so the pressure to win again was on!
6600 people came to the start, cycling really is a big thing in this county since a ”smaller” race can attract that many people! I really like that! The girls started together with the men in this race, we must have been a bunch of about 200 and we started with the 4km climb up hellshoegte pass so smaller groups formed from the beginning. I was with the first guys until about 800m from the top when it felt like someone hit me in my tummy and I just sank through the bunch. I was on my own on the way down and the second bunch caught me at the bottom. We caught the first bunch but it splitted again when we got to Paarl and the strong gutter. I was not feeling good at all but luckily I was the only girl in that bunch so I could comfortably sit there to win the race for the 5th consecutive time!
I was riding this race for the charity ”Give me a chance children’s foundation”. They help young people to a better education, which is the right way to help South Africa on a long term basis. If you are riding the Cape Argus cycle tour in March, please consider riding for them, they are trying to set the world record with 500 riders riding in their clothes! You will be riding for a good cause!
The summer has finally arrived here! Welcome summer!! Yesterday we had 36,5 degrees!
Together with the mens winner Herman Fuche.
A happy winner!
