This weekend I stayed at home and did the last League races to get some good training in before the Argus without needing to travel. Since I had missed two previous races in the League I was not in the lead any more and was out of the overall competition. I was still very much in competition for the queen of the mountain title though.
On Saturday it was the Wilde fruit race in Wellington. The girls started on our own and we sat off in the wind. When we had a strong side wind I speeded up and the bunch split, we were 7 girls together when we came to Bootsmanskloof pass, a 3km hill with a Queen of the mountain at the top. I put the hammer down and got away on the way up. At the top I had about 2-300meters. When I saw that I decided to go for it and try to stay away. So I had a 50km time trail to the finish and won the race with about 5 minutes.
Sunday saw a City Bay race in Cape Town around the peninsula and most of the Argus route. This day the girls started together with the masters. The wind was almost as strong as it was at the Argus and it made it very hard on the way out. I worked a lot from the front since it was not many that were willing to come to the front in that wind. When we came to the long hill of the day, Ou Kaapse weg, me and Kelly decided together to go away from the girls and masters that were still with us and we worked together the last 15 km and finished 1-2 minutes ahead of the bunch. I won the sprint over Kelly and I could finish of the Summer League with another win and the win of the queen of the mountain competition.
It was 2 good training races in the preparation for the Argus that is in 2 weeks time. Next weekend is free from races, I will only watch others racing at the MTB Argus that is in this area on Sunday.
This week has been great, I have been on my dream motor bike! Ever since I had a motor bike in 2001 I have wanted this Yamaha R1, not that I have ever been on one but because I think it looks so good!! (yes I am a girl….). Then last week I met a friend of a friend that told me that he has exactly that bike (but actually the wrong colour) so he took me for a ride! And boy, was that fun!!! When we did about 150kph in the corners up a hill I was a bit nervous! He has raced on track so he knows what he is doing so I was safe:-)
We had a really hot weekend in Stellenbosch, yesterday at 5pm it was still 40 degrees!! Almost a bit too hot, you get very lazy and it gets hard to sleep. Luckily the races starts at 6.30am before it gets hot!!
Today I am going to Cape Town for a TV shoot for the Argus, it is on top of Table mountain, was a while since I was there so will be fun!

TV shoot for SABC 2 on top of Table Mountain, will be showen during Argus. Johnny Koen, Penny Krohn, me and Linus Van Onselen. We have all done Argus under 3 so we can all wear the new Sub 3 kit.
