On Friday
it was finally time to remove the pins from my thumb. I got the most local
anaesthetic that I have ever got, it was literally just that area that was
numb, I could feel the top of my thumb and the rest of my hand and I could hear
everything and feel a scraping feeling when the pins were removed. But it was
no pain. And it was over in only 10 minutes.
Since I
last wrote I have been able to train on the roads but only in time trail bars,
I could not really hold the handle bars but it was fine if I put pressure on
the elbows instead. It has really been nice to be able to cycle outside again.
This morning was the first time that I was out without the TT-bars, I don’t
need the splint anymore and everything should be fine now. When I came home my
thumb was a bit swollen, but that is only normal, it will take a while until I
am free from pain and have full movement in the hand.
If
everything goes well this week I will do my first race this coming weekend. It
is the PE Herald in Port Elisabeth, I have done that race twice before and been
3rd and 4th. It is a good race and it would be nice to do
it again.
I will let
you know how it goes, hold your thumbs for me!:-)
