It was Craigs birthday yesterday and we celebrated that with a mountianbike race:-). It was the Delta trap at Solms Delta wine farm on the way to Franshoek. Since we did the race last year we knew it was a fast route so we used it as speed training and the last hard session in preparation for Joburg2c that starts on Friday. There were a lot of people that showed up for this lap race of 20km where you could choose to do 1, 2 or 3 laps. It was a fast start and the had changed the route so that we were on narrow gravel roads in the beginning so the bunch got spread out, but came back together when we hit the tar again. I was with the mens bunch until we went off the tar and soon started the only climb on the lap.
I was alone for a bit and then 2 guys caught me and I rode with them on and off until the last lap when I lost them. It was a bit tricky on the second and third lap to pass all the slower people doing the shorter races.
I took the win in the ladies category ahead of a new kid on the block from Namibia and Ann on 3rd place. The prize was of course some good wine from the Solms Delta farm!
Thank you Manic Cycles and Geddan for a well organized race!
Now it is just time for some rest before our next adventure Joburg2c, 9 days and 900km of riding!! We will be riding as Team Old Mutual mixed, thanks in advance Old Mutual for supporting us for this event!
