Today it was time to race again, the Reeds 99er in Durbanville, I think it is the 8th consecutive time that I did this race. When the alarm went off at 3.45am and it was raining outside it was very tempting to turn around and fall back to sleep. On the start line at 6.08am those thoughts were gone:-) Ashleigh Moolman who currently is the best female cyclist inSouth Africawas there and also Sharon Laws. This race is a national classic and not part of the local league.
As usual we started with the men 40 + and we started very quick. There were a few attacks and the bunch got smaller and smaller all the time. Luckily the three of us girls were far to the front in the beginning cause afterwards I heard that there had been a big crash after about 20km.
After about 90km we went through a corner, I was a bit too far back and they attacked, a group of 16 got away, among them were Sharon and Ashleigh. I was chasing together with some guys but we never managed to catch. So I got a 3rd place today.
Kelly 4th, Sharon 2nd, Ashleigh 1st and me 3rd
