Just one week after I returned from Turkey, I went back to Arlanda airport, this time to fly to South Africa. I flew with Ethiopian airlines for the first time, have to say I was a little sceptical at first, but everything went well and it was definitely worthwhile at that price!
It has been a rainy winter in Stellenbosch, which is good because we had water shortage at the beginning of the year, but just in time for my return the summer and heat arrived, perfect! Some of my first days back we had +36 degrees hot!
At the same time as I arrived in Stellenbosch, Marthinus from Silverback came to deliver my new bike, a Sesta SBC! We built it up and adjusted all my settings and already on my first ride it felt like I had been riding this bike for long, it fitted perfectly! I am excited to tell you that I will ride Silverback bikes from now on! It is a company with a lot of exciting future plans and I am looking forward to this journey together with them.
My hamstring has felt better and better and I've been able to do some hard interval sessions and this weekend I wanted to test a race to see how it would feel to push hard for 3 hours. It's only 2 weeks until Wines 2 Whales I wanted to see where I stand before that race. So yesterday Craig and I rode to the Ouwergauw wine farm to take part in the STBB MTB race here in Stellenbosch. There is always a nice vibe at this race and they are doing this for a good cause, the Miles for Smiles foundation! I struggled at the start and I felt like everyone just passed me, eventually I got in to my own rhythm and it felt a bit better. My hamstring felt good and towards the end I could start passing other riders. My form might not be the best and I am missing some confidence on the downhills but other than that I was happy with where I was.
Today I have done a long ride with Mariske Strauss, my W2W partner, it was lots of fun and we rode nicely together, I am looking forward to doing W2W with her in 2 weeks time!
